Wastelands

A playmat illustration for a card game project done with a group of friends. You'd stick your cards on the mat (which had a bunch of card placeholders) and move it around heroes-of-might-and-magic-style.

The idea is that this is where the all nasty, spiky, gooey, "bad guys" lived, and the rock formations are created from some great evil force underground, threatening to break free. Also inspired by Morder - and other classic volcano, dungeon, desolate landscape style environments.

This painting took a really long time for me to finish (I re-did it a bunch of times). But I ended up being really happy with the result (this doesn't happen often!). I really consider this painting an important progress milestone for myself due to all the trial and error I did trying to hammer out this whole image.
